Storm drain systems are simple: To prevent flooding when it rains, water needs a path to flow away from streets and into nearby bodies of water. This water is NOT treated - storm drains don’t filter the water they carry. Please don't litter...Anything left on the ground; motor oil, trash, fertilizers, cigarette butts, plastic bags, and pet waste gets carried by rainwater into the storm drains and flows untreated into waterways. This creates a direct pathway for pollution to affect rivers, lakes, and oceans, posing risks to aquatic ecosystems and public health.
