Please register your group or family to join us in picking up litter. We’d love to have you help us keep Sugar Land beautiful!

If you would like to get involved, check out the Adopt-a-Spot Program and our Extra Litter Clean-Ups. It’s a meaningful way to spend time with loved ones while helping keep our city beautiful.

 

Detailed volunteer information is included on the Volunteer Registration Waiver.  All volunteers, under age 18, must be accompanied by a registered adult (over age 21) that will volunteer with them.  Registered individuals, groups and families will be assigned to a designated cleanup site. Safety instructions, site assignments, and event details will be emailed to registered volunteers the week prior to the event.

Please Don’t Release Balloons…What Goes Up Must Come Down

  • Did you know that balloon releases are a source of litter?
    • Balloons can travel hundreds of miles and end up as litter on land and in rivers, lakes, and beaches. and may cause harm to wildlife?
  • May Cause Harm to Wildlife, Livestock, and Pets
    • Animals and Birds may mistake deflated balloons for food
    • Wildlife and pets may become tangled in strings or ribbons attached to balloons.
  • May Cause Power Outages if they come in contact with power lines or circuit breakers.
  • Deplete Resources: Helium is a finite resource that is diminishing.

Options Instead of Balloon or Sky Lantern Releases for Celebrations or Memorials

  • Plant a tree or flower for a long lasting memorial
  • Blow bubbles
  • Fly kites

Texas Litter Facts:

  • 47% of all litter along Texas roads comes from motorists.
  • Micro litter is any piece of trash two inches or smaller.
  • 29% of all micro litter on our roads is cigarette butts!
  • Approximately 362 million pieces of litter accumulate on Texas roadways every year!
  • You can be fined up to $2,000 if you are caught littering.
